Anepigraphic portrait brockage of Augustus

Starting Price: 100 CHF
Hammer Price:  700 CHF
Lot 901

Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Denarius (Silver, 21 mm, 3.65 g, 12 h), Uncertain mint in Italy (possibly Brundisium or Rome), circa 32-29 BC or later. Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. Brockage of the obverse. Likely RIC 252 or adjacent issues. Lightly toned. Porous surfaces; scrapes and scratches, otherwise, about very fine.

Ex Giessener Munzhandlung 96, 7 June 1999, 438.

Based off of the style of the portrait, and the beaded border, this coin is most likely to be RIC 252.
