Belos is the Hellenized name for Bel, who was also known to the Babylonians as Marduk. Bel/Marduk was worshipped in Ziggurats in ancient Babylonia, such as the one depicted on the reverse.

Elymaite bronze coins, struck several centuries after this coin, depict Belos on the reverse, radiate.
