GREEK WEIGHTS, Thrace. Lysimacheia. Circa 300-144 BC. 1/3 Mina (Copper-based alloy, 45x43x12 mm, 173.09 g). Λ-Υ/[Σ]-Ι Forepart of lion jumping to right; below, TP ligature (partially renegraved). Rev. Blank, as made. Cf. Pondera, ID 13889 (lead). Very rare and unusual copper alloy weight; green patina. Graffito and minor engraving on obverse, otherwise, very fine.



Metallurgical analysis shows that this weight is 45.3% copper, 35.72% lead, 15.39% nickel, 2.88% iron, 0.331% tin, 0.180% molybednum, 0.089% niobium, 0.050% antimony, and 0.036% zirconium.
