CILICIA. Tarsos. Pharnabazos, Persian military commander, 380-374/3 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 10.76 g, 6 h), circa 380. Female head facing, based on the Arethusa of Kimon, turned slightly to left, her hair bound in an ampyx, and wearing a single pendant earring and two necklaces, one of pearls and the other of pendants; on the left, fish swimming upwards. Rev. ΚΙΛΙΚΙΟΝ - ḤLK (= Cilicia in Aramaic) Bearded male head (Ares?) to left, wearing a crested Attic helmet with an upraised earflap and a palmette and spiral ornament on the bowl, his cloak around his neck truncation. Casabonne Series 2. Jameson 2603 (this obverse die) = Pozzi 2847. Moysey, Issue 3 (obverse die 2/-, but reverse die unrecorded). Very rare, and of a very refined style, with its obverse die closely based on Kimon's Arethusa. Nicely centered. Nearly extremely fine.
