ATTICA. Athens. Circa 138/7 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.81 g, 12 h), New style "stephanephoric" coinage, struck under the magistrates Glaukos and Eche... Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing a triple-crested Attic helmet, adorned with Pegasos and a long tendril on the bowl, and with four serpents on the visor. Rev. Α-ΘΕ /ΓΛ/ΑΥ -ΕΧΕ Owl standing facing on amphora; to right, the chief magistrate's symbol of a radiate and draped facing bust of Helios; on amphora, Λ (= 12th month); in the lower field to left of the owl, ΚΤ (= contractor's initials); all within an olive wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 306 var. (this obverse die, but unpublished for this month). Extremely fine.
