TAPAΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding rudder in his left hand and a kantharos in his right; in field to left, KΛ. Fischer-Bossert Group 74a, 914b (V357/R709, this coin). HN III 939. BMC 208 (same dies). Vlasto 640. A beautifully toned example, very well-struck from fresh dies. Good extremely fine.
From a European collection, ex Numismatica Ars Classica 33, 6 April 2006, 18, Spink 120, 9 July 1997, 20, and from the "England" Collection, formed in the 1980s or before.
It is particularly difficult to find nomoi from Tarentum with exceptionally clear details, especially the faces of both the horseman and Phalanthos/Taras, such as they exist on this coin. Here, everything is clear and sharp, and the coin is beautifully toned as well, making this an especially desirable piece.
