Head of the nymph Parthenope to right, her hair elaborately curled and bound in a wide taenia, wearing triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind, bunch of grapes. Rev. MACEDON, Galepsos. Circa 400-348 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 12mm, 2.13 g 1). Head of youthful Dionysos to left, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΓΑΛΗΨΙ[ΩΝ] Forepart of goat to left, his head turned back to right. Demetriadi, Galepsus, type b. SNG Greece 7, 400. A very rare coin from a very rare mint. Attractive and clear with a dark green patina. Very fine.
MACEDON, Mende. Circa 400-350 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 9mm, 1.56 g 9). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΜΙΝ Amphora with tall handles; to left, ivy plant. SNG ANS 396. SNG Copenhagen 221 var. (head to left). An attractive piece with a dark, glossy patina. Nearly extremely fine.
Northern Greece (or perhaps Ionia?), uncertain mint. c. 500-490 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24mm, 17.16 g 11). Lion crouching to left, gnawing on a bone held by his forepaw; above, lotos; below, globe Rev. Forepart of a winged wild boar to right; all within a linear square border in an incuse square. Hell. Prim. p. 234, 9 and pls. 27, 20 and 27, 18 = Jameson 2028 = Traité I, 1857 and pl. LIX, 14 = Weber 8555 ( all this coin). Very rare. Toned and with a fascinating pedigree. About extremely fine.
