Charioteer, in chariot drawn by a human-headed horse (a centaur?) to right, holding a standard on a rope ending before the horse’s head; below horse, male figure, apparently lying to right but actually standing and holding a fish (dolphin?) in each hand. D&T 2142/3. Unusually clear and complete. Some striking flatness on the obverse and reverse, otherwise. Very fine.

ΣVRΑΚΟΣΙΟ - Ν Head of Arethusa to right, wearing necklace and pearl diadem, and with her hair tied in a krobylos that is bound up and falls over her diadem; around, four dolphins swimming clockwise. A rarre variant with the triskeles to right. Toned. Very minor edge knock, otherwise, about extremely fine.

Head of Tanit-Persephone to left, wearing wreath of corn leaves, triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, four dolphins. Rev. Free horse prancing to left with palm tree behind. Jenkins 139 (O46/R125, this coin cited twice). A bold and elegant coin, nicely toned. Some flatness on the obverse, and traces of corrosion on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

THRACE. Ainos. Circa 412/1-410/09 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 16.65 g, 7 h), Head of Hermes to right, wearing close-fitting petasos with knob at the top and beads along the edge. Rev. ΑΙΝ - Ι Goat standing to right; to right, kerykeion; all within incuse square. May 263a (this coin). Attractively toned and of very fine style. Good very fine.
THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 15.79 g, 12 h), Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΥ / ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΜΑΡΩΝΙΤΩΝ Dionysos, nude but for chlamys draped over his left arm, standing left, holding two narthex wands in his left hand and bunch of grapes with his right; to left, monogram of ΠΑΥΟ; to right, Θ. Dewing 1295. Schönert-Geiss 1111 ff. Attractively toned and with an obverse in high relief. Extremely fine.
ISLANDS off THRACE, Thasos. Circa 148-90/80 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32mm, 16.97 g 11), apparently an early imitation. Head of a youthful Dionysos to right, wearing elaborate ivy wreath with leaves and berries. Rev. ΘΑΣΙΩΝ ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ Youthful Herakles, nude but for drapery over his shoulder and let arm, standing facing, his head to left, holding a club in his right hand and resting his left at his waist; in field to left, Μ monogram. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left on throne, resting her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike in her outstretched right hand; to left, herm on throne, with lion’s head to left above; on throne, monogram of ΠΑΟ. Thompson 257. Rare. Toned and struck on a broad flan. Traces of horn silver, otherwise. Good very fine.

An attractive, toned coin struck on a broad flan. Nearly extremely fine.

Stater (Silver, 19 mm, 9.89 g), Satyr standing right, grasping the right arm of a nymph fleeing to right with his right hand and raising his left in an attempt to placate her; to left and above, large pellet. MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 500-480 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.98 g), Lion to left, attacking bull kneeling to right, head lifted and turned back to left; in exergue, flower. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Cf. BMFA 516 and SNG ANS 4. Lightly toned and well-struck in high relief. Extremely fine.
MACEDON, Chalkidian League. Circa 432-348 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 14.50 g, 11 h), Group J, c. 398-395. Laureate head of Apollo to right, his hair long and falling down the back of his neck. Rev. [Χ]-Α-[Λ] / [Κ]Ι[Δ] / ΕΩΝ Kithara with 7 strings. Robinson & Clement 43 (A33/P49). SNG ANS 477 (same dies = J43 c). An attractive, toned example. Struck on a somewhat tight flan, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
MACEDON. Neapolis. Circa 424-350 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 13 mm, 1.91 g, 5 h). Gorgoneion facing with protruding tongue. Rev. Ν-Ε / Ο-Π Head of the nymph of Neapolis to right, her hair coiled around her head and with a bun at the back, wearing a plain necklace with a pendant. SNG ANS 441. Toned and sharp. Minor bang on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 14.50 g, 2 h), Amphipolis, 348/7-343/2. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠ - ΠΟΥ Young jockey, holding palm branch and reins, riding horse to right; below horse to right, rose.
