CELTIC, Lower Danube. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st centuries BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 34.30 mm, 16.76 g, 5 h). Stylized head of a youthful Dionysos to right, wearing elaborate ivy wreath with leaves and berries. Rev. ΗNΛEOVΣ / ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΘΑΣΙΩΝ Youthful Herakles, nude, standing facing, head left, holding club in right hand and cloak over left arm; in field to left, Μ. Lanz 971-4. OTA ppl. 46-7, Class III. Attractive light toning, and with a highly stylized head of Dionysos with heavy facial features. Good very fine.
