KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.91 g, 12 h), Heraclea Pontica, c. 288/7-282/1. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king’s name, in her right; behind, transverse spear with point below left; on the exergue, almost not visible here, club. Müller 366. Thompson 177. Same obverse die as Goldberg 72, 2013, 4339. With a particularly high relief portrait of Alexander the Great. Obverse slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

This coin was indeed hard to identify. There are no monograms or symbols, and only, after careful observation, could something be seen on the exergue. After carefully checking through Thompson for emissions that only had symbols or monograms in the exergue, we could then link our obverse die with an already known example. Thus, we could then identify Heraclea as the mint!.
