THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 411/0-398/7 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 12.64 g, 2 h), Deonyos. Bridled horse springing to left, with trailing rein; above, head of a bearded satyr facing. Rev. EΠI ΔEONYOΣ Grape vine with four bunches of grapes within linear square; around inscription; all within shallow incuse square. Schönert-Geiss - (but same reverse die as 155). Extremely rare with this obverse symbol, and very nicely toned. Good very fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, ex Numismatica Ars Classica I, 19 May 1999, 1261.

The name Deonyos is very uncommon: it only appears on coins from Abdera and Maroneia and is very probably of northern Greek or Thracian origin.
